Printable Moving Checklist

 

Keep a file consisting of papers essential to selling your old home and buying your new one.
   
Call several moving companies to get estimates.
   
Select a moving company, and set a date and time.
   
Ask your mover how he or she wants to be paid, verify insurance coverage and labor details.
   
Decide if you will pack yourself or if you will hire someone.

Research banks in your new location and transfer accounts.
   
Empty safe deposit boxes.
   
Arrange for disconnection or transfer of utilities. If deposits were required to obtain service, ask for them back.

If you have children, ask them to pick favorite games/activities, then pack them in a separate bag to take with you.
   
Tell someone you trust exactly where you will be and when during your trip. Give your Realtors this person's phone number to contact. Check in on a scheduled basis with this person.
   
(If you have the time) Take inventory of items to be moved either on paper or, more suitably, with a video camera. If any damage, or lack thereof, to your most precious of valuables. This inventory record may come in handy if something happens to you valuables.
   
Decide what you will do with all the perishable food in your pantry. If you are in the Triangle area, consider calling Moveable Feast to come pick up your unopened groceries, 919-481-1220.
